Mostra EcoDesign a Helsinki

The 2014 theme of Habitare's EcoDesign special exhibition is life-cycle thinking. The exhibition will present works by some 60 designers. The exhibition will draw attention to the key role of the designer, as the most important decisions affecting the environment are made in the product's design phase. The curator of the exhibition will be the Finnish architect Marco Casagrande. The Habitare fair will be held at Messukeskus from 10 to 14 September.

The brief for the designers was to conceive a product, taking into account its entire life cycle from the early design phase to its removal from service. Key criteria for the designs were environmental sustainability in manufacture; material choice; packaging and logistics; usability; maintainability; and recyclability. Another important criterion was the analysis made by the designers themselves of how well their designs performed in terms of environmental sustainability.

The 2014 EcoDesign special exhibition will feature some 60 designers and some 65 designs. Included will be many young designers and design students. The exhibition will present furniture, light fittings and design objects. Items such as a table-top worm compost bin and an insect terrarium will bring new perspectives to life-cycle thinking.

The EcoDesign exhibition is produced by the advertising agency Valo and organised by Messukeskus.
